8th Annual Funnel Cake Eating Contest
3:00 – 3:30 p.m., Sat., June 10
Location: Century II Food Court
Brought to you by: Sports Radio 1410 KGSO/The Big Talker 1480 KQAM
Participate in the 8th Annual Riverfest Funnel Cake Eating Contest for your chance to earn bragging rights and a prize courtesy of The Big Talker 1480 KQAM and Sports Radio 1410 KGSO. Listen for chances to sign up on-air starting May 31. Any remaining open spots will be filled on-site starting at 2:30 p.m. Contestants will have ten minutes to eat as many funnel cakes as they can! Participants must be 18 years of age or older.

  

Canoe Races
2:00 p.m., Sat., June 10
Location: Ralph Wulz Riverside Tennis Center, 551 Nims St.
Canoe Races are back! One of the original events from the very first festival in 1970 makes its return. Paddlers will start north of the tennis center on the Little Arkansas River, race upstream to the turn-around point at 13th Street, then it’s a mad dash back to the finish line under the bridge at Nims and Stackman Drive. Entry is free, but teams must supply their own canoe, oars and personal flotation device.

Cardboard Regatta
1:30 – 3:30 p.m., Sun., June 4
Location: Douglas Street Bridge
Brought to you by: The Bull
Build a river-worthy vessel in 90 minutes or less with cardboard, duct tape, pool noodles and a box cutter. No team size limit, but at least one team member (ages 12 or older) must ride in the vessel. Awards will be presented for fastest time, best design and most spectacular sinking. $20 per team.

Human Foosball Preliminaries & Finals

Just like foosball game tables, only participants become the life-size players. This game is just as much fun to watch as it to play! Six-member teams will compete for prizes.

For ages 5 to 17. Build an airplane with the assistance of an aerospace engineer and try to land it in the target zone to win a cash prize.

  

Riverfest Beard & Mustache Contest
3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sun., June 4
Location: RedGuard Stage
Presented by: Wichita Beard & Mustache Club
Facial hair enthusiasts will face off in this 2nd Annual Riverfest event. Women and kids, don’t think you are left out! There are creative categories that allow you to create fine, fake facial hair.

  

 

Riverfest Kickball Tournament
11:00 a.m., Sat., June 10
Location: Westside Athletic Field, 571 N. McLean Blvd.
Presented by: Wichita Kickball League
Teams and spectators alike are sure to have fun in this fast-paced, high-energy game. Teams of 15 players will compete in this 2nd Annual Riverfest Kickball Tournament. $150 fee per team.

Riverfest Paddleboat Races
6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Wed., June 7
Location: Waterwalk
Rev up your pedal power for some friendly competition during the Paddleboat Races as 2-person teams compete for prizes and glory!


Riverfest Pedal Parade
Noon – 1:00 p.m., Sat., June 10
Location: RedGuard Stage

As with any good parade, we want to see your flair! All human-powered vehicles are welcome, so get those bikes tricked out and festoon every trike, wagon and stroller in sight. More than $500 in prize money will be awarded.

     

Riverfest Sandcastle Competition
12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., Sun., June 4 – Competition
12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., Sun., June 4 – Free Play
Location: Main Street in front of Library
Teams will have two hours to build a sandcastle that reflects, resembles or looks something like a building, structure or iconic thing located in Wichita. Passerbys are welcome to join in and play in the sand even if you’re not a part of the competition.

Parade entrants inspired by this year’s theme, “River Madness!” strut their creative stuff with floats, bands, flags, performers and all your favorite parade traditions.

Starlight Flotilla

Enjoy this spectacular closing night event as boats present a parade of festooned with lights. If you would like to enter a boat and get the chance to watch the fireworks from your anchored vessel please complete the entry form that’s coming soon.

Stock Tank Races
2:00 p.m., Sat., June 3
Location: Arkansas River at Douglas Street Bridge

This new event is one you won’t want to miss as teams race the Arkansas River in stock tanks! Cash prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers as well as Best Decorated tank and costumes.

KANSAS HEALTH FOUNDATION RIVER RUN

June 3, 2017

A Riverfest tradition, River Run features a terrific route adjacent to the Arkansas River, a high-energy finish line, bib tag timing and music at the RedGuard Stage. Get your game face on and challenge family and friends as you go for the gold! All registrants receive a Riverfest button and commemorative T-shirt. Finishers of every race receive a medallion and complimentary finish line breakfast. An awards ceremony will take place on the RedGuard Stage immediately following completion of each race.
